It is a kind of cosmetic surgery which helps in correction of female external genital folds, the labia minora and the labia majora.

Labia minora is the skin covering the female clitoris and vaginal opening. Large labia often results in painful intercourse or discomfort. Women may require a reduction to their labia minora for different reasons. Sometimes the condition is inherited, but it can also develop during adulthood, usually as a result of childbirth.

Labioplasty can be performed privately in the clinic under local anaesthesia. During the surgery, a wedge of excess tissue is removed and the remaining tissue is brought back together. The incisions are well concealed and are repaired with absorbable sutures.
