Causes of Gynecomastia

In 85% of the patients the cause is unknown and requires surgery.
The other causes of gynecomastia are

• Obesity
• Natural aging process
• Alcohol abuse
• Chronic liver disease
• Certain medications

Gynecomastia may affect one or both breasts, and is most noticeable at beach or a pool. For those who are self-conscious about their condition, a plastic surgeon can perform breast- reduction surgery.

Who is an ideal candidate

If you have abnormal amount of fatty tissue on your chest, and are uncomfortable with it, are mentally and emotionally stable, you are a good candidate for the surgery.

Procedure

The procedure is done under general or local anesthesia. A small incision is made, on the lower half of the areola. Through this incision, all the extra fat is sucked out. In cases when the tissue is glandular than fatty, the breast tissue is also removed.

After- Care

A pressure garment is worn for 3- 4 weeks after surgery. Many young men feel confident and relieved after the correction.
